Los Johnny Jets [Mexico]

Famous Mexican band from the 60s, and still active. In fact this is a Great Collection charged with many popular songs from the early and mid 60s transported into Spanish language.

This is a compilation and not the original album shown above!

Marco Tulio Castillejos (Vocalista y bajo)
Isaías Landeros (Saxofón)
David Torres Bolaños (Requinto)
Arturo Cedillo (Tecladista)
Ernesto Diego Partida (Baterista)

Sandy Nelson - The Rebirth Of The Beat [1969]

His first recording, with a band called The Renegades (Richard Podolor, Bruce Johnston and Nick Venet), was "Geronimo", written by Venet, produced by Kim Fowley and released on the Original Sound Records label. Although it flopped on the national charts, it charted in some of the midwest markets. The song, along with "Charge", is part of the soundtrack of 1959 film "Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow" released by American International Pictures.
Nelson attended high school with Jan Berry, Dean Torrence (who became Jan and Dean), and Kim Fowley. After gaining respect as a session drummer, he played on such songs as "To Know Him Is To Love Him" (Phil Spector's Teddy Bears, 1958), "Alley-Oop" (The Hollywood Argyles, 1960), and "A Thousand Stars" (Kathy Young and the Innocents, 1960).
His song "Teen Beat", on Original Sound Records, rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. Subsequently he signed with the Imperial record label, and pounded out two more Top 40 hits, "Let There Be Drums", which went to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Drums Are My Beat". In December 1961, the British music magazine, NME, reported that "Let There Be Drums" had gone Top 10 in both the United Kingdom and United States. All three were instrumentals (a feat rarely repeated).Guitar playing on these hits was by co-writer, Richie Podolor (aka Richie Allen), later a songwriter and record producer.
Near the end of 1963, Nelson was in a motorcycle accident. The injuries necessitated amputation of his right foot and part of that leg. Nonetheless, Nelson continued to record into the early 1970s, releasing two or three albums a year, consisting of cover versions of popular hits plus a few original compositions.
Nelson lives now in Boulder City, Nevada and continues to experiment with music on keyboards and piano.
In September, 2008, Nelson and a few friends, recording as Sandy Nelson and the Sin City Termites, released a new record of original compositions, Nelsonized, on the independent Spinout label. Other band members included Eddie Angel (guitarist for Los Straitjackets), Remi Gits, and Billy Favata of Torturing Elvis

The Lightning Fingers of Roy Clark [1963]

Originally recorded for Capitol Records in his pre-Hee-Haw* days (1963), this is Roy Clark's instrumental album, an all-guitar fest that showcases the country artist's amazing chops. Kicking off with a warp-speed version of "Twelfth Street Rag" that actually gets doubles in tempo by the final chorus, this album features a brace of generic "twistin"' instrumentals (read: public domain tunes given a twist beat) like "Texas Twist," "Weeping Willow Twist," "Wildwood Twist" ("Wildwood Flower"), "Golden Slippers," and "Over the Waves," rocked up cha-cha's like "Pink Velvet Swing" and Bob Wills' "A Maiden's Prayer," and boogies like the closing "Chicken Wire." Produced by Ken Nelson and sounding for all the world like it was cut in a single afternoon session, this should open up anyone's eyes and ears who thinks of Roy Clark only as a belly scratchin' fool, telling corny jokes and singing sappy love ballads !!! [Cub Koda]

*Hee Haw is an American television variety show featuring country music and humor with fictional rural Kornfield Kounty as a backdrop. It aired on CBS-TV from 1969–1971 before a 20-year run in local syndication. The show was inspired by Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, the major difference being that Hee Haw was far less topical, and was centered on country music. Initially co-hosted by musicians Buck Owens and Roy Clark, the show was equally well-known for its voluptuous, scantily-clad women in stereotypical farmer's daughter outfits, male stars Jim and Jon Hager and its cornpone humor. The Sound Of Water Skiing ...

Water Skiing (1965) is a full-throttle surf-rock record, and it only makes sense that Eddy tackles that style, since his endless echo was a catalyst for surf-rockers. Almost all of the songs on the album are originals, including the ingenious ripoff "Whip Off." There's nothing really memorable on the album, but all of the songs are opportunities for Eddy to simply play, and he plays very, very well -- enough to make the album worthwhile for most serious Eddy fans.  Stephen Thomas Erlewine, AMG

The Eliminators - Ultrasonic Surf Guitars (1998)

«THE ELIMINATORS have led the way in the resurgence of instrumental surf music that was popular during the early 60s by staying true to the sound while giving the music and their show a modern twist. Their fast rising popularity is due to their incredible live performances and their T.V and radio sound waves. You know their sounds from the Bud-Light "Left coast right beer" commercials, guest appearances on "Beverly Hills 90210", bumper music and record reviews on 95.5 KLOS "Mark and Brian" show, a guest band appearance on the popular talk show "The View" and from background music for the hit T.V drama "Providence". The Eliminators have had great national exposure by performing on a 25-city tour sponsored by Bud-Light and opening for superstar Jimmy Buffett. The Eliminators are five California longboarders who live the lifestyle of the music they play. All five band members are longtime Orange County surfers who were brought together through common interests; surfing, the love and respect for the ocean, and the desire to bring the authentic sound of the early 60's surf bands back to the forefront of the music industry. They pride themselves on authenticity, using Fender guitars and blonde "Fender Showman" amps for that unmistakable sound unique to surf music. The Eliminators capture a piece of the past, from the traditional surf guitar drenched debut album UNLEASHED, to the cutting edge sounds of ULTRA SONIC SURF GUITARS. If that true California surf sound is what you're after, The Eliminators nail it!» (from their homepage)

Telstar (II)

The French composer, Jean Ledrut, accused Joe Meek of plagiarism, claiming that the tune of "Telstar" had been copied from "La Marche d'Austerlitz", a piece from a score that Ledrut had written for the 1960 film Austerlitz. This led to a lawsuit that prevented Meek from receiving royalties from the record during his lifetime, and the issue was not resolved in Meek's favour until just three weeks after his death in 1967. Austerlitz was not released in the UK until 1965, and Meek was unaware of the film when the lawsuit was filed in March 1963.

-----

In 1968 the court awarded 8,500 pounds (today about 250,000 euros) to the French composer Jean Ledrut - and rejected the complaint: Four identically bars are not enough, it's also important to view the whole production of the song Telstar as innovative work and complete new interpretation … to late for Joe Meek. The frozen royalties were paid afterwards to Joe Meek's legal heirs. (from German Wikipedia)
